The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)-led National People’s Power (NPP) alliance will reveal its symbol on October 7, JVP General Secretary Vijitha Herath said.
He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after placing the cash deposit for NPP presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (Oct 1).
Mr. Herath emphasised that the NPP has not put forward a candidate to indirectly support another party, but to contest single-handedly and win the November 16 vote.
“The NPP has come forward as the true alternative force against the corrupted conventional policies (of political parties),” he added.
The NPP comprises 28 civic and political groups.
Responding to a query, the JVP General Secretary remained upbeat on the chances of Dissanayake’s victory at the poll.
He said that candidates such as Mahesh Senanayake, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, and Sajith Premadasa, believed to be frontrunners of the race, were not a challenge to his alliance.
Herath also firmly denied reports that presidential candidate Dissanayake had been engaging in talks with the United National Party at Temple Trees.
