Two suspects have been arrested for operating a beauty culture centre which sold expired cosmetic products in Meegamuwa, police said.
According to the Police, the suspects were accused of importing expired products including creams after which they introduced fake labels before putting the products on sale.
A total of 14,500 products without labels, and 600 products carrying false labelling were seized from the Centre at the time of the arrest. This was in addition to the seizure of 178 partly labelled products and 380 labels containing the names of leading cosmetic brands.
Police had also seized two machines which were used to print a fake expiry date on the products. The suspects aged 45 and 48 are to be produced before the Meegamuwa courts today.
