Navy arrested two persons who were attempting to smuggle 5.5 kg of gold to India by a fishing boat last night, a statement from Navy said. The arrest was made in the seas 8 Nautical Miles North of Kankesanthurai while the suspects were attempting to transport the stock of gold in a fishing boat, disguised themselves as fishermen.
On receipt of intelligence by naval personnel attached to Northern Naval Command in Kankesanthurai, the sudden raid was made by the officers and sailors and managed to recover the stock of gold. The arrested persons along with gold were handed over to the Jaffna Customs Officials for further investigations
