The Postal Department has called the public to remain at home on Sunday as a special poll card delivery is scheduled.
The Post Master General Ruwan Sathkumara told Timesonline that they had distributed four million poll cards by today morning.
He added that they have distributed 24 percent of 17 million poll cards were handed over to them.
“We initiated poll card distribution last Sunday by having a special distribution”, he said.
Mr Sathkumara requested the general public to be present at their residences to receive the poll cards as poll cards would be handed over after residents confirm their identity,
According to election regulations the postmen are unable to hand over polling cards without confirming the identity of the residents of the house and they were unable to leave poll cards in post boxes as well or hand poll cards to house aids.
The Postmaster General added that persons who failed to receive poll cards can obtain it from the post offices after poll distribution activities are halted. He added they plan to halt poll card distribution 10 days prior to the general election.
