Singing Fish emerged champions of the 4th Milo Challenge Trophy football tournament when they defeated St Anthony’s Club by two goals to nil in the final played at the Durraiappah Stadium in Jaffna.
The two teams qualified to the final by recording wins with Singing Fishing getting the better of St Mary’s 2-0 and St Anthony’s overcoming Young Kampans 3-1.
The tournament conducted by the Jaffna Football Association with the blessings of the District Secretariat spearheaded by N. Vethanayahan and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd under their popular brand Milo has gone from strength to strength since it began in 2013.
The tournament is conducted annually with the aim of raising the game of the football clubs of Jaffna.
The first tournament in 2013 saw the participation of 40 teams but subsequently it has increased from there on with 60 teams in 2014 and 100 teams in 2015.
This time out a record150 teams participated from clubs of Island Football League, Jaffna Football League, Valkamam Football League, Vadamarachchi Football League, Point Pedro Football League and Maruthankerny Football League and was played in six venues.
