Former 100m national record holder and prominent sprinter, Himasha Eshan has been tested positive for using a banned substance listed by WADA, the World Anti-Doping Agency.
A top official of Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA) stated that Eshan has been given a temporary ban, pending inquiry and has been summoned through an official notice to appear with a representative of Sri Lanka Athletics on December 15 for investigation.
He was tested positive for intake of a banned substance after a random anti-doping test conducted at his residence at the Army Quarters in Narahenpita on October 26.
The banned substance is said to have been included in the WADA list since 2021 according to reports.
However Eshan, who last contested in October at the Sri Lanka Army Athletic Meet, is currently in Italy according to the sprinter's close sources.
Eshan held the national record in 100m and won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2016.
He was tested positive for using banned substance earlier and was banned for several years, but after Eshan made an appeal the ban was eased after several months.
SLADA stated that it would act in accordance to guidelines and protocols issued by WADA in Eshan's case.
