Sri Lankan duo Hasini Ambalangodage and Hasara Wijeratne clinched the Women’s Doubles silver medal, after a gruesome battle, at the Zambia International Badminton Tournament, which concluded at the OYDC Sports Development Centre in Lusaka, Zambia.
Hasini and Hasara were tipped as firm favourites to claim the Women's Doubles title of the Zambian competition, but were stunned by the Maldivian pair A. Abdul Razzaq and F. Abdul Razzaq, who put up a fine performance to thwart their Sri Lankan opponents from making a perfect finish to their so-far successful campaign.
Despite putting up a brilliant performance, Hasini and Hasara were outdone by the Maldivian pair, who went on to claim the Women's Doubles title with a straight win.
The Maldivian duo, however, did not have things going their way, but maintained great composure to overcome the Sri Lankan pair by set scores of 21/17 and 21/19 after a tough battle.
Hasini and Hasara will carry the momentum to their next venture to the Otse Police College Indoor Gymnasium in Botswana, where Sri Lankan duo will be in action at the Botswana International 2024 from November 21 to 24, aiming to make amendments by finishing with the gold medal in Women's Doubles.
