Big Match: 103rd Battle of the Blues of Central Hills this weekend

Big Match fever will return to the Central Hills between the two leading schools from the Province -- Trinity College and St. Anthony's College -- who will meet after a lapse of two years due to COVID-19 pandemic. 

The 103rd battle between these two schools will be played on June 3 and 4 at the Asgiriya Stadium. 

The Limited Overs encounter will be played at the same venue on June 11.

Trinity is led by Akram Muthalib, who is a fantastic leader in the caliber of Nirsohan Dickwella. 

During the ongoing season, Trinity beat D.S. Senanayake and Ananda outright and recorded first innings wins against Mahanama, Prince of Wales, St. Joseph's, Nalanda, Wesley, St. Sebastian's, while losing to St. Peter's. 

Skipper, Akram led from the front scoring over 600 runs with a best of a magnificent 162 against the Cambrians. 

He is consistent in his batting as well as in wicketkeeping. 

Vibawith Ehelapola with 400 runs and Rahal Amarasinghe with 381 runs are Trinity's other two leading batters while in the bowling left-arm leg-spinner Theeraka Ranatunga leads the list. 

Ranatunga had a magnificent season claiming 47 wickets with a best of 6 for 58 against the tough Nalanda outfit. 

Against the Joes he took eight wickets and also showed promising allround efforts with a brisk knock of 44 not out. 

He had scored more than 200 runs and has shown his quality as a good promising all-rounder. 

He is the highest wicket-taker so far in the Inter School Under-19 Cricket season. 

Manula Kularatne (26) and Dinuka Thennakoon (35) are the other two leading bowlers for the Trinitians.

Similarly, the Antonians have won two of their traditional matches against Kingswood and St. Servatius while recording first innings wins against Isipathana, Thurstan, Ananda and St. Benedict's. 

In the tournament Limited Overs matches, the Antonians beat both Thomians of Mount Lavinia and Matara, St. Benedict's, St. Joseph's, St. Sebastian's while losing to Richmond. 

Asitha Wanninanayake leads the Antonians individual scores with 728 runs while Chamindu Wickremasinghe, with 520 runs and Chandimal Herath, with 380 runs, are the other two leading batters. 

The classy Mohamed Aaqil had scored 412 runs, inclusive of a magnificent 70 against Ananda.

The Antonians last won the traditional big match three decades ago under Umesh de Alwis, way back in 1992 while the Trinitians scored their last win under national player, Niroshan Dickwella in 2012. 

The series is led by Trinity with 23 wins while the Antonians have won it 12 times. 

Put of the 102 games played so far, 67 encounters have ended in draws.
