Sri Lanka's first Test captain, Bandula Warnapura, has been hospitalised and is being currently treated at the ICU of Nawaloka Hospital in Colombo.
The cause for his condition is yet unclear as medical experts suspect of a possible heart or kidney failure.
According to close family sources, Warnapura will be taken into a surgery on Friday (8).
His sugar level has exceeded higher than usual and the clear cause of Warnapura's health condition will be determined after the surgery according to sources.
Warnapura, 68, currently functions as an administrator to Sri Lanka Cricket and served the Asian Cricket Council at the highest level for a long period.
He was Sri Lanka's first Test cap and featured in four Tests, 12 ODIs and 57 First Class matches from 1975 before being banned for 25 years by the then Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka for taking part in a 'rebel tour' to South Africa in 1982.
Warnapura captained Sri Lanka's first Test match, and also faced the first delivery and scored the first run for his team.
He captained Sri Lanka in all four Tests he played and also captained the first ODI match Sri Lanka won.
