Seamer Dushmantha Chameera is likely to miss the rest of the T20 World Cup after suffering a calf injury during Sri Lanka’s 79-run victory over UAE in their second qualifying round match at Geelong on Tuesday.
This comes just four days after left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka was ruled out of the World Cup due to a quadriceps muscle injury. Running in to bowl his final delivery of the match, Chameera pulled up lame, and immediately left the field, limping. It seems that he needs three to four weeks’ rest to recover. However, an MRI will be performed on Wednesday to decide the extent of his injury.
Right-arm seamer Kasun Rajitha is likely to be called up to the side. Meanwhile seamer Pramod Madushan has also suffered a minor hamstring injury during the match.
“It’s not as serious as that of Chameera. He should be okay in a couple of days,” team sources from Australia confirmed.
Top-order batter Danushka Gunathilaka has also injured his hamstring and sources said he could also miss the rest of the World Cup. Though Gunathilaka played the opening game against Namibia, he was replaced by Charith Asalanka against UAE.
