Sport

With these words etched in the hearts and minds of all Rugby enthusiasts in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan Fans out of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Rugby is so proud to inform all its supporters, that after a hiatus of over 20 months, that the Sri Lanka National Rugby team is all set to take part in the Asia Rugby Sevens Tournament scheduled to take place win the UAE on November 19 and 20, with Moose Clothing Company, extending its unstinted support by coming forward as main partners with  the SL National Rugby Team for this tournament.

This announcement also culminates in the visit of ARFU President His Excellency Qais Abdullah Al Dhalai being present in Sri Lanka on Monday (25) commencing his tour to Sri Lanka and India to look into the rugby sphere in both countries.

Moose Clothing Company, is a youthful and versatile local clothing brand established in 2018 and with its base rising out of over half a century of experience and exposure in the clothing industry and thus it is a brand that believes in celebrating the free-spirited personality of the wearers.

With Moose Clothing readily extending its fullest support to SLR by availing itself of the sponsorship of the SL National Rugby 7s team, it has no doubt embarked on uplifting the Sri Lankan flag for this sport in the international arena.

This partnership with SLR is a timely decision which will undoubtedly support the celebration of this sport at a time when countries are slowly emerging out of lockdowns and restrictions amidst economic hardship.

This encompasses the genuine expression of freedom and sportsmanship that will not only empower the players to perform their best at the tournament but also strengthen their spirit and make them soar high.

Sri Lanka Rugby has always given back to its sponsors the expected mileage and more and this is evident in its rich history sponsorship of rugby and culminating in the extensive ambassadorial program it bestows in its sponsors.

After a layoff of over 20 months of zero rugby, this tournament is the breakthrough that the Sri Lankan Tuskers - both the men and women’s team is looking forward to and with Moose stepping in and extending its sponsorship, SLR has been able to go above and beyond expectations and has been able to bring in a 7’s specialist coach Ben Gollings to train both the teams/squads to face the upcoming tournament.

This  upcoming Asia Rugby Sevens Tournament  will be the first event for the year with the last event organised by Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) being the Inter Club XV a side event in February 2020.

The tournament in November will host 16 Men’s and Women’s teams running concurrently, and will act as an Asian Qualifier for the Rugby Sevens World Cup 2022 which is to be held in South Africa as well as a ranking tournament for the Asian Games 2022 which is scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China in the coming year.

It is envisaged  that this tournament is a stepping stone of for SL Rugby to move towards 2022 with a few more international 7s and the two major tournaments namely the Commonwealth and Asian Games being which will give Sri Lanka Tuskers an opportunity to play against some of the big names in the 7s game’s and maybe knock at the door for a place on the World Series

SLR will be taking each tournament at a time depending on the sponsorships it can obtain and hope that with things falling into place, the country will be able to bring back a medal to the nation.

We trust and believe that the current SLR team has one of the best blend of elected members with decades of experience and exposure in both the administration and the playing of the sport, and who are committed to the sport for the love of the sport and with the ability to act independently

With this partnership of SLR and Moose Clothing, we know that the SLR National team will be able to make a mark in the international rugby arena and return home with bouquets and accolades in the months to come.
