SLC opens State-of-the-Art Swimming Pool

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today unveiled a state-of-the-art eight-lane swimming pool at the National High Performance Centre, located at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPICS), Colombo.

The new facility was officially opened by the Honourable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage, upon the invitation of Mr. Shammi Silva, Honorary President of Sri Lanka Cricket. Several distinguished guests graced the occasion, including the Honourable Deputy Minister of Sports, Sugath Thilakaratne, Mrs. Anuradha Illeperuma, and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

Also present were SLC’s Executive Committee Members and Office Bearers, and among them were — Honorary Vice Presidents Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa and Mr. Ravin Wickramaratne, Honorary Secretary Mr. Bandula Dissanayake, and Honorary Treasurer Mr. Sujeeva Godaliyadda. Mr. Lasantha Wickremasinghe, Honorary Assistant Treasurer; CEO Mr. Ashley De Silva; Director of Cricket Mr. Jerome Jayaratne; and Head Coach of the National Men’s Team, Mr. Sanath Jayasuriya and Head Coach of the National Women’s Team, Mr. Rumesh Ratnayake, were also present during the opening. Ms. Chamari Athapatthu, captain of the national women's team, and the members of the national team took part in the opening.

This cutting-edge swimming pool, built as part of SLC’s National Pathway Program, measures 25 meters in length and 21 meters in width, with a depth ranging from 1.2 to 1.8 meters. It will serve the Sri Lanka National Teams, ‘A’ Team, and National Fast and Spin Bowling Squads — supporting player fitness, post-match recovery, and injury rehabilitation. Additionally, the facility will be available to visiting international teams during tours of Sri Lanka. The pool complex is equipped with modern male and female changing rooms, first aid facilities, and essential amenities to ensure a professional environment for athlete care and recovery.
