The 80th general assembly and congress of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) officially commenced today (May 19) at the Grand Maitland in Colombo.
Nearly 300 delegates from 80 member countries across four continents gathered, making it the second-largest sports conference in the world following the International Olympic Committee’s assembly.
The conference will run until May 24, with sessions including continental meetings, CISM conferences, and the general assembly, all organised under the coordination of the Defence Services Sports Board.
CISM, founded in 1948, currently has 141 member nations and aims to promote "friendship through sport" among armed forces globally.
Sri Lanka has been a member since 1974, with the Defence Services Sports Board serving as its official representative.
