Kaushal Silva’s ton guided SSC to a comfortable win against Army SC in the AIA Premier Inter-Club Limited Overs Cricket Tournament match played at Panagoda on Saturday (28).
With rain playing a key role in Saturday’s proceedings Silva came out with a bang hours after the Sri Lanka team embarked on a tour to New Zealand.
The SSC opener, who should have been with the entourage, gave the selectors a knock on their heads with the first century of the competition, against Army SC.
SSC made 327 and had the Soldiers struggling on 83-6 in their run chase in the 26th over at the time of the downpour.
According to Duckworth/Lewis Method the Soldiers should have reached 242 runs at that juncture.
Silva’s elegant 106 which came off 126 deliveries had ten boundaries and a six added power to the SSC total alongside a rapid 94 coming off his partner Danushka Gunathilaka’s bat.
Gunathilaka faced 99 balls and hit eight boundaries and four sixes while forming an opening partnership of 183 with Silva, who lost his place in the national team.
