AIA Premier Cricket: Three matches end in No Decisions

Three games ended in No Results in the opening week of the AIA Premier Inter-Club Limited Overs Cricket Tournament played around Colombo due to rain on Saturday (28). 

At the P. Sara Oval Saracens and Tamil Union shared two points each after rain abandoned the game. Saracens put into bat made 238-5 in their allotted 50 overs with a useful partnership from middle-order batsmen Harsha Cooray and Umesh Karunaratne bolstering their total, after losing two early wickets. 

Cooray batted sensibly to hit 92 off 135 deliveries with nine boundaries and a six while Karunaratne, playing a bit aggressive remained unbeaten on 96 off 122 balls with six boundaries and a six. Rain prevented Tamil Union chasing the target as the match was eventually called off. 

Rain halted play at Colts where the hosts were struggling at 125-8 against NCC and never took off ending the game in a No Decision. 

Priyamal Perera top scored for Colts with a fluent 52, which came off 90 deliveries inclusive of two boundaries. Fast bowler Farveez Maharoof claimed a five-wicket haul for NCC, who won the toss.

Bloomfield made 238 against Badureliya SC at Reid Avenue where play was halted soon after the innings break, ending the game in No Result. 

Bloomfield’s total was strengthened by two half centuries from Primosh Perera and Sachin Jayawardene who made 66 and 51 respectively. 

Perera faced 86 deliveries and hit four boundaries and two sixes while Jayawardene’s 51 came off rather quickly, from 52 deliveries inclusive of three fours and two sixes. Badureliya SC won the toss. 

The curtain raiser match was won by Sri Lanka Ports Authority who beat CCC by 33 runs on Duckworth/Lewis Method at the CCC ground on Friday (27). 

Put into bat first SLPA were restricted to 199 and CCC was 160-9 when rain stopped play.
