The Athletics Association of Sri Lanka is scheduled to hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections on Tuesday (30).
Meanwhile two former national athletes have brought an injunction order in order to stop the AGM last Friday (26).
An order regarding this is expected from the courts on Monday (29).
The reason for the injunction order is that several who have been nominated for the elections have no qualifications according the Sports Law.
The Elections Committee can object but the Objection Committee has not inquired into this.
Three candidates have sent in their nominations for the president’s post.
They are current president Sugath Tillekeratne, former president Maj. General Palitha Fernando and G.L.S. Perera, a former vice president.
If a court order is issued there will be a big question regarding the participation at two international meets.
If a court order is issued , according to the Sports Law the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka will have to form an interim committee.
But the International Athletics Association of Federation (IAAF) does not accept interim committees.
The Asian Athletics Championships is scheduled to be held from July 6 to 9 in India and the World Athletics Championships is to take place in England from August 3 to 12.
On June 1 and 2, the final selection trials for the Asian Athletics Championships, there is bound to be a question regarding this as well.
