Over 3000 athletes representing 100 schools are expected to take part in the Colombo Athletic Championship for juniors to be held at Torrington ground this weekend.
The two-day event organised and conducted by the Colombo Athletic Association will be held on Saturday (23) and Sunday (24).
The tournament will be open to Schools, National Schools and International Schools in Western province.
Events to be held are 60m, 80m, 100m and 200m in Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 age categories.
The Under-15 and Under-17 age categories will include the 800m and javelin events in addition.
Each athlete will be eligible to take part in three events according to the organisers.
Colombo Athletic Association, the organisers, will present scholarships to four talented athletes with the intention of encouraging them to emerge as national athletes.
