With a tally of 77 gold, 66 silver and 53 bronze medals, Western Province emerged emerged overall champions of the 41st National Sports Festival ended at Diyagama Stadium on Sunday (20).
Central Province won 47gold, 33silver and 57 bronze medals to secure the runners-up position while North Western Province finished overall third with 26 gold, 27 silver and 34 bronze medals.
A total of two Sri Lanka records and 12 meet records were established during the three-day meet.
Southern Province’s Manjula Kumara who cleared 2.19m in the Men’s High Jump event was adjudged the Best Male Athlete for the second consecutive year.
N.C.D. Priyadarshani of Western Province, who established a new national record in Women's Long Jump with a distance of 6.43m was named the Best Female Athlete.
The Ministry of Sports announced that plans have been made to hold the 42nd National Sports Festival in the Northern Province next year.
