Pushpadana Girls School Kandy beat St. Anthony’s Girls School Katugastota 8-5 to win the Kandy Schools Girls Under-19 Basketball Championship played at Katugastota.
The winners led 5-3 at halftime in a contest where both teams played equally well.
In the semi-final Pushpadana GS beat Hillwood College 14-8 after beating Colombo International School in Kandy 10-5 and Good Shepherd Convent 14-8 in the knockout round.
Pushpadana GS was led by Nuwanthika Sanjala with Sachini Abeysinghe, Malsha Senanayake, Anjali Nikeshala, Hasini Indira and Dilmini Chandrika making a strong team.
Pushpadana’s Sachinia Abeysinghe won the Best Offensive Player award while her teammate Malsha Senanayake became the Most Valuable Player.
St. Anthony’s GS’s Sandamini Rankothge won the award for the Best Defensive Player.
The tournament was organised by the Kandy District Basketball Association.
