Cinnamon Red Colombo bagged their very first TTSC title when they lifted the ‘Grand’ Trophy at the rain hampered, 33rd Travel Trade Sports Club Hardball Cricket ‘Sixes’ 2015, sponsored by Cinnamon Grand Colombo for the 4th successive year concluded at the BRC grounds last weekend.
Nine teams in three groups participated in two stages, consisting 12 matches.
There were two spells of rain during the league stage, one at 12:45 and a heavy one at 2:00 pm, put the tournament in disarray.
The last three games in the league stage were curtailed to three overs-a-side.
At the completion of the league, the three group leaders, namely, Cinnamon Grand Colombo, SriLankan Airlines, Cinnamon Red Colombo, along with the best second out of the three groups, debutants, Waters Edge advanced to the semi-finals.
But by that time darkness had fallen and the umpires decided to enforce the ‘Bowl Out’ contest to determine the ultimate winner and runners-up.
In the first semi-final bowl out, Cinnamon Red Colombo beat Waters Edge and in the second semi-final, SriLankan Airlines beat sponsors -- Cinnamon Grand Colombo.
In the final Cinnamon Red Colombo via two hits by Pasan Wijewardena and Riyaz Allang beat SriLankan Airlines, one hit.
