The currents and under currents at local cricket elections continued to unfold in the aftermath of the sports ministry ruling stating that some of those contestants are ineligible contest next cricket AGM.
However it is now known that the decision by the Director General of the Ministry of Sports rejecting at least two nominees would be contested.
After the Ministry of Sports rejected the names of K. Mathivanan (From the Sumathipala faction) Asanga Seneviratne (From the Ranatunga faction) who were contesting for the post of vice president and Eastman Narangoda who was going to contest for the post of treasurer from the Ranatunga faction.
According to Mohan de Silva of the Sumathipala faction they are going to challenging the decision rejecting Mathivanan.
De Silva said that in 2012 Nishantha Ranatunga, Hirantha Perera, Asanga Seneviratne and K. Mathivanan faced the objections, but, after they took the matter up with the attorney general who cleared the names. He said “That is why we forwarded the name of Mathivanan”.
Meanwhile Nishantha Ranatunga speaking on the case of Eastman Narangoda said “We were aware that Eastman Narangoda – a prominent banker had not served the stipulated two years and we have obtained clearances from the Ministry of Sports. With all that they still have rejected his nomination. Besides that we also find that even Jayantha Dharmadasa has served for only a year and eleven months in the executive committee. He was – similar to Asanga Seneviratne -- nominated by the executive committee.”
