The District Hockey Championship conducted by the Kandy District Hockey Association, will be held at the Municipal ground in Getambe on December 19 and 20.
For the first time, the tournament will be hosted as a Sevens championship with the vision of giving more opportunities to participants.
The defending champions in the Men’s category are Old Kingswoodians and they are expected to receive stiff challenges from Old Rajans SC, Old Sylvestrians SC, Old Vidyarthians SC, Anniewatte SC, Kandy Hindu Association, Old Trinitians SC, Kandy Hockey and Football Club and University of Peradeniya.
The defending champions of the women’s segment are Old Devians Sports Club, who are likely to see Seetha Devi Sports Club, Old Antonians Girls Club, Old Pushpadana Sports Club, Old Mahamayans SC and Peradeniya University trying to topple their supremacy.
The tournament will also feature a segment for Veterans who are above the age of 35.
