Sri Lanka was placed fourth in the Asian Rugby Qualifiers Rugby 7s of the Rio Olympics held in Hong Kong this weekend, after South Korea edged past the Tuskers to record a 26-21 victory on Sunday. Playing in their final Pool ‘B’ game, Sri Lanka thrashing Philippines by an impressive margin of 50-5 to enter the Cup semi-final where Japan won by 43-0 to reach the final and win the competition. In the Pool games Sri Lanak beat Iran (31-10) and Malaysia (24-10) convincingly before Hong Kong handed them their first defeat 12-27, despite holding the halftime lead by 12-5. After trailing 0-10 at halftime, Japan bounced back to beat Hong Kong 24-10 in the Cup championship final and book a berth at Rio Olympics 7s. China beat Malaysia 38-5, to win the Plate championship. Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Women's team finished sixth in the Women’s 7s competition after losing to Guam 5-21.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
