Dinesh Chandimal has been named as captain of the Sri Lanka Twenty20 team after regular skipper Lasith Malinga was ruled out due to an injury.
In addition to the appointment of Chandimal, Sri Lanka will make two changes in place of injured Malinga and Kusal Perera, who was provisionally suspended by the ICC.
“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to make the following announcement with regard to changes to the T20 squad for the New Zealand Tour. Lasith Malinga, the T20 captain is injured and unable to tour New Zealand. Dinesh Chandimal has been appointed as the stand-in captain for the T20 leg of the tour,” a statement issued by SLC said.
“Kusal Janith Perera is currently under suspension by the ICC and though in the initially released squad, he will not participate in the T20 series. Danushka Gunatilleke and Suranga Lakmal are the replacements in the T20 squad in place of the above members,” the statement added.
The two-match Twenty20 series will be played on January 7 at Mount Maunganui and on January 10 at Auckland.
