SL in NZ: Host take control after bowling out Sri Lanka 137 runs behind

New Zealand took control of the first Test with a lead of 308 runs and with nine wickets in hand at stumps on Day 3 in the first Test against New Zealand in Dunedin, New Zealand today (12).

Resuming from their overnight score of 197-4, Sri Lanka were bowled out after 36.1 overs and after adding 97 runs, at 294.

New Zealand, who were sent in to bat made 431, and were 171-1 at stumps on Day 3.

Overnight batsman Dinesh Chandimal failed to any runs to his tally and was sent back in the second delivery of the day. 

On the second day opener Dimuth Karunaratne and wicketkeeper/batsman Chandimal kept their heads high despite Sri Lanka lost four wickets.

Karunaratne hit 84, after facing 198 balls and hit seven boundaries while Chandimal took 209 deliveries for his knock of 83, which included nine boundaries. 

Tim Southee and Neil Wagner grabbed three wickets each while Trent Boult and Mithchell Santner claimed two wickets apiece. 

In the second innings of New Zealand, opener Tom Latham remained unbeaten on 72 which came off 128 deliveries inclusive of five fours. 

Martin Guptill, who struck 156 in the first innings, was bowled out for 46 by Rangana Herath while Kane Williamson was 48 not out at the time of stumps.
