Sport

New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in the second and final Test match today (21) to seal a comfortable 2-0 series win, with a day to spare.

Chasing 189 for victory, with ample time reach the target, New Zealand made it home with five wickets in hand.

Despite paceman Dushmantha Chameera’s four wickets, top order batsman Kane Williamson played a cautious knock with an unbeaten 108 off 164 deliveries and ensured New Zealand’s victory.

The man-of-the-match hit 12 boundaries and a six and stood firm as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Sri Lanka, who took a lead of 54 runs in the first innings, were bowled out for 133 in the second innings with opener Kusal Mendis emerging as the top scorer with a 90-ball 46.

Tim Southee claimed four wickets and ended up with a match bag of seven wickets.
