Sri Lanka were 264-7 when rain forced stumps of the first day’s play in the second and final Test match against New Zealand in Hamilton today (18).
Put into bat first, Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals until skipper Angelo Mathews and Milinda Siriwardana anchored the visitor’s with a partnership of 138 runs for the fifth wicket after they were placed at 121-4.
Dinesh Chandimal was dismissed for 47, as he made a knock out of 56 deliveries hitting seven fours.
Siriwardana hit 62 off 81 deliveries inclusive of five fours and three sixes.
Mathews remained unbeaten on 63 off 111 deliveries as he hit five boundaries and three sixes to help put Sri Lanka back on track with Siriwardana.
Trent Boult and Tim Southee claimed two wickets eachas the game was stopped at 4.30pm due to rain.
Sri Lanka fields an unchanged side from the first Test they lost last week at Dunedin.
