Swimming: Tharindu and Sashini -- the Kisross open winners

Tharindu Udayanga de Silva of Madampe Central College and Sashini Navodya of Ambalangoda Sri Devananda College won the 51st Kinross Swimming and Life Saving Championship 2016 for Open Men and Women concluded at Wellawatte. 

In a competition participated of over 100 participants these two youngsters from Ambalangoda Lions Swimming Club finished the 10km race from Wellawatte to Mt. Lavinia and back where Tharindu finishing in a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 11seconds to be the winner for the fourth time while Navodya reach the winning post in a time of 3 hours, 26 minutes and 34 seconds for her second successive victory. 

Tharindu, a young lad of 19, won the Mt. Lavinia 2-mile open swimming championship earlier. 

It is interesting to note that these two young swimmers train at the Madampe river didn't find things difficult when competing at the sea swim. 

The second spot in the Men's event was won by Gishan Kavindu of Lions Swimming Club Ambalangoda with a time of 2 hourrs, 37 minutes and 18 seconds. 

S.I. de Silva also from Lions Ambalangoda clinched the third place timing 2 hours, 44 minutes and 17 seconds. 

In the Women's segment Chamanthi Navodya representing the Kinross Swimming Club swam for the second place timing 3 hours, 31 minutes and 45 seconds while the third place was won by W.K. Tharidini of the Sri Lanka Army with a time of 3 hours, 44 minutes and 12 seconds was the second runner-up. 

At the conclusion of the meet Sasini Navodya and M. Mukaram of Kinross swimming Club were adjudged the Best Youngest Swimmers in the Women's and Men's section respectively. C.I.S. Edirisinghe was awarded the Best Veterans swimmer. 

Sri Lanka Army emerged Team Champions dethroning the defending champions Ambalangoda Lions Club. 

Third place was won by Sri Lanka Police Swimming Club.
