Table Tennis: Dewmini and Helitha win Western Province Ranking Championship

Dewmini Weerasena of Musaeus College along with Royalist Helitha Hendavitharana and Royal Institute’s Fathmath Ali were crowned Most Outstanding Players in the Women’s and Men’s categories along with Royal Institute’s Fathmath Ali as the Up and Coming Player at the Western Province Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2015, organised and conducted by the Nugegoda Table Tennis Club which was concluded at the St. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium tables last weekend.

Dewmini Weerasena displayed top quality TT to win the Open Women’s Singles, Under-21 Girls Singles and runner-up in the Girls Under 18 Singles while Hendavitharana won the Open Men’s Singles, Under 18 Boys Singles and runner-up in the Boys Under 15 Doubles events respectively to be adjudged as Most Outstanding Players.

The player who stole the limelight at the competition was little Fathmath Ali showed glimpse of being a star in the future by winning the winning the Under-8 and Under-10 Singles events was picked as the Up and Coming Player.

Boys: Kakeru Hennayake (Ananda College) beat Danuk Lamasuriya (Ananda College) 2-0 (11/6, 11/09)

Under-10: 
Girls: Fathmath Ali (Royal Institute, Colombo) beat Sanaya Buddhadasa (Visakha Vidyalaya) 2-1 (11/9, 12/14, 14/12)
Boys: Senura Silva (Ananda College) beat Thumal Adikary (Royal College) 2-1 (11/7, 8/11, 11/7)

Under-12: 
Girls: Ayla Chitty (Ladies College) beat Nethmi Hettiarachchi (Holy Cross College, Gampaha) 3-2 (11/13, 6/11, 11/7, 11/8, 11/5)
Boys: Thisas Ranchagoda (Royal College) beat Senura Silva (Ananda College) 3-1 (11/6, 11/8, 11/13, 11/5)

Girls: Jithara Warnakulasuriya (Ladies College) beat Ayla Chitty (Ladies College) 3-1 (11/8, 11/5, 9/11, 11/5)
