U-15 Cricket: Sri Lanka retain Tuanku Ja'afar Trophy in Malaysia

The Sri Lanka Under-15 Schools team beat South Africa by 60 runs to retain the Tuanku Ja'afar Trophy at the International Under-15 Cricket Challenge final played at the Bayuemas Oval in Malaysia on Sunday (10).

Batting first Sri Lanka U-15s posted 233-7 in 40 with Avishka Tharindu top scoring 72.

Sheran Rasoon and Maneehs Perera chipped in with a valuable knocks of 39 and 29 respectively. 

South Africa U-15s were bowled out for 173 with two deliveries to spare as Janindu Jayawardane claimed three wickets. 

Kavindu Nadeeshan and Yasiru Kasthuriarachchi picked two wickets each. 
    
Avishka Tharindu from St. Anthony's College Wattala was awarded player of the final award.

Sri Lanka U-15s beat South Africa, Bangladesh, India, Thailand and Malaysia in the first round and signed off with an unbeaten record.

Besides finalists Sri Lanka and South Africa, India, Bangladesh, Thailand and host Malaysia took part in the tournament.

Sri Lanka U-15s was captained by Kamil Mishara from Mahanama College Panadura while Ravindu de Silva from Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda acted as vice captain.

Other players in the squad were Shevan Rasool (St. Joseph's College), Mohommed Shamaz (Zahira College), Avishka Tharindu (St. Anthony's Wattala), Avishka Perera (Nalanda College), Janindu Jayawardane (Bandaranayake Gampaha), Maneesha Rupasinghe (Isipathana College), Kavindu Nadeeshan (Dharmasoka Ambalangoda), Ahan Sachintha (Royal Colombo), Manula Perera (Royal Colombo), Sandun Mendis (Richmond Galle), Yasiru Kasthuriarachchi (Mahanama Colombo), Leshan Amarasinghe (Isipathana College).
