Soldier killed in Yala shootout

A soldier was killed and another injured in a shootout with suspected LTTE cadres in the Yala park yesterday evening, military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said.

He said the incident took place in Block 3, to which visitors are not allowed. The injured soldier has been rushed to the Buttala hospital while a search operation is underway in the area. On Tuesday one soldier was injured in a similar shooting incident in Yala Block 2.
