Political mudbombs in overturned truck

It resembled a scene right out of the movies. A loaded lorry overturned at Bangala junction along the Ethul Kotte-Pita Kotte road.

The next moment, tough looking men in civvies surrounded the lorry and soon armed police officers arrived. A Police crane arrived at the scene, placed the overturned truck on its wheels, and towed it to a location behind a fuel station in Ethul Kotte. Armed police officers stood guard there.

It turned out that there was a load of scurrilous posters against opposition's "common candidate" retired General Sarath Fonseka in the lorry. Some copies found their way into the hands of opposition leaders.
Local police officers were helpless. They said there were orders from the "top" to ensure no one tampered with the posters.

These posters were not the only ones in the slander campaign against Gen. (retd.) Fonseka. There was also a booklet with his photo on the front page.

Most of his supporters thought it was one in favour of the war hero. Instead, there was scandalous material inside.
