The main award in the ‘Large Scale Manufacturing’ category at the first ever Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards was presented by the President to Brandix Director Aslam Omar, as part of the government’s Vidulka Energy Week programme, recognizing the Group as the most energy efficient among the largest manufacturers in the country.
Energy consumption data of three years was evaluated by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA), a unit of the Ministry of Power & Energy, to determine the winners in five categories for this prestigious award.
Brandix, the pioneer of and process leader in eco-friendly manufacture in Sri Lanka, and the first apparel manufacturer in the world to receive Platinum status for Green manufacture from the US Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building rating system, led the field of contenders from multiple sectors of industry, according to a company statement.
Brandix CEO Ashroff Omar said the impact ‘our business has and will have on the environment has long been and will always be a top priority in our sustainability agenda.’
Certified data submitted by Brandix to the Authority’s panel of judges showed that the Group had reduced its total electricity consumption by 16 % and fuel consumption by 28 % through a combination of new technology, improved processes, and conversion to renewable energy sources.
Furthermore, Brandix’s flagship eco-friendly manufacturing facility at Seeduwa has achieved and maintained a 46 % reduction in energy consumption since it was redesigned and reopened in April 2008. |
