I was astounded to learn that the crime for which former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka was convicted of and sentenced to 30 months rigorous imprisonment (a disproportionately harsh sentence) was related to "Disgraceful Conduct".
Is there any conduct more disgraceful than the jailing of a courageous General, now convicted and sentenced for one more crime, with further court cases pending.
Most believed that the judgment would go against him after the result of the first court martial where he suffered the ignominy of being stripped of his rank and medals — again another travesty of justice as pointed out by the Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe in his brilliant legal exposition published in the Sunday Times recently.
And this at a time when the most repressive of the regimes in the region (so far), the Myanmar Government, has agreed to release the leader of the Opposition Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest after the elections in November.
The only victor to emerge from this is Prabhakaran and the pro-LTTE diaspora.
