Five public shows of Kanchuka Dharmasiri's production of Eugène Ionesco's The Bald Soprano will be held during the months of October and November. The first show will be on October 15 at 3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. at Namel-Malini Punchi Theatre, Borella , followed by a performance in Kandy on October 16 at 6.30 p.m. at the Hindu Cultural Hall. In November, the show will be on the 10th at 3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. at Lumbini Theatre, Colombo
Titled Thatta Gayikaawa in Sinhala, the play belongs to a tradition which emerged in post second world war Europe - The Theatre of the Absurd. Deepani Silva, Chamaru Pathirana, Sangeetha Abeywardhana, Athula Samarakoon, Lakmali Jayasinghe and Dhanushka Gunathilake star in this production. Music is composed by Mohan Deshapriya and Muditha Dharmasiri, while the make up and lighting is by Ranjith K. Rajapakse.
