Consultant Neurologist Dr. Padma Gunaratne was re-elected President of the National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka at its AGM held recently at the HNB Towers auditorium.

A highlight of the event was a guest lecture by Dr. Palitha Maheepala, Additional Secretary of the Health Ministry on 'Strategies for prevention and rehabilitation of strokes in Sri Lanka'.
Making the presidential address, Dr, Gunaratne said that over the decade of its existence, the Stroke Association has gone a long way in establishing stroke services. Its services have been multiplied with the Association receiving due recognition by winning the first Gold awarded by the World Stroke Association for its activities organized in connection with World Stroke Day 2009 in a competition held among 56 organisations in 30 countries. This award will be presented at the World Stroke Congress in South Korea this October.
The various activities carried out by the Association include educating the public on stroke preventive measures, conducting nurses training programmes, holding screening clinics for the public and organizing activities to mark national and world stroke days. |
