Zonta Sri Lanka is celebrating the 91st anniversary of the Zonta movement worldwide. A ceremony will be held on November 6 at the Women's International Club by Governor Dr. Marlene Abeywardene encompassing all the clubs in Sri Lanka.
The main aim is to showcase some of the programmes undertaken by Zontians in Sri Lanka. Skits, street dramas and stalls by some of the members' enterprises promise to make this a colourful occasion.
Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
With more than 31,000 members belonging to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 66 countries, Zontians volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects.
Zonta seeks to advance the status of women worldwide by improving the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local levels through service and advocacy.
Zonta International has supported projects in 46 countries, provided scholarships and awards to women around the globe, and been a powerful advocate for change in communities, thereby working to transform women's place in society.
Zonta International is committed to expanding women's access to skills training and income-generating activities that lead to sustainable livelihoods and economic independence.
Zonta has supported programmes that increase women's access to financial resources and generate higher wages through the establishment of all-female micro-credit programmes, technical skills training and improved techniques in the production and marketing of goods.
Through the Young Women in Public Affairs Award, Zonta encourages more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing young women for their commitment to the volunteer sector, volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Zonta's Z Club and Golden Z Club programmes help high school, college and university students develop leadership skills, explore career options and participate in local and international community service projects. |
