On the 15th of November 2011, the Interact Club of Asian International School visited the children of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. This project was chaired by the Assistant Secretary, Interactor Dinal Jayasekara.
When the ICAIS members arrived at the hospital they were pleasantly surprised at the ease with which the children accepted them. The Interactors played various games with these little friends, and felt elated when they were rewarded by gleeful smiles on the children’s faces. The very young ones were especially delighted when Interactors dressed as clowns performed nursery rhymes and sang songs with them. The wonderful day ended much too soon.
The AIS Interactors left the hospital after gifting the children with various items such as toys, diapers, biscuits, etc. promising to return next year.
This day was made extra special because ICAIS also had the opportunity of meeting the elder occupants of the Shantha Sevana Hospice next door. Interactors spent wonderful moments with them, exchanging news and asking questions about their families. The Interactors presented them also with gifts: nightgowns for the women and sarongs for the men.
At the end of the day, the ICAIS members went back to school feeling fulfilled and very dated because they had made a group of people who were going through difficult times, smile; a feeling they are growing accustomed to because of Interact. |
