After three athletes tested positive for COVID-19, Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) decided to immediately call off training of its national pool, reliable information revealed.
The three athletes, a male and two females, were tested positive for COVID-19 during a Rapid Antigen Test conducted for national track and field athletes, who are currently undergoing housed training at the Torrington Place facility of Ministry of Sports.
With the development, SLA has decided to rename a fresh national athletic pool on August 20, a decision it has already taken few weeks ago, but without a date announced.
Currently 22 male and 24 female athletes are training under SLA's Elite National Pool and it will be reinstated with a few additions on August 20, according to reliable sources.
The decision to postpone the 99th National Athletic Championship to October was based on the present crisis situation caused by the pandemic.
