Cricket: Lahiru Thirimanne joins Mulgrave CC in Australia

Sri Lanka top order batsman Lahiru Thirimanne will join Mulgrave Cricket Club later this month according to reliable sources. 

Accordingly, the 32-year-old left-handed batsman will miss the upcoming domestic season in Sri Lanka as he is expected to join his Australian team later this month. 

Thirimanne has been rated as a Test player by national selectors and with games unavailable during the near upcoming months, Sri Lanka Cricket has granted him to leave to represent the Western Australian club side. 

It is said that Thirimanne is looking at options for permanent residency in Australia and he will represent Mulgrave CC during his stay down under. 

Former Sri Lanka captain and opener Sanath Jayasuriya joined Mulgrave CC as head coach recently, after Anusha Samaranayake, also a former Sri Lanka fast bowling coach joined the club. 

Mulgrave CC is captained by TM Dilshan, former Sri Lanka opener, and recently Upul Tharanga, with whom Dilshan have had a few double century opening partnerships in ODIs, also joined the club.

Thrimanne will be the latest Sri Lankan addition.

Sri Lanka Cricket sources said that Thirimanne will be considered for the upcoming 3-match Test Series against the West Indies to be held in November.
