Table Tennis: Veteran players bag 16 medals at Australian Masters

Five Sri Lankan veteran table tennis players Dr. Nimal Lucas, Mohammed Laffeer, Ira Ruwanpathirana, Tamara Hewage and Udayanganie Ariyawansa participating in the Australian Masters Games held in Adelaide, Australia from October 3 to 10 came out with flying colours winning a tally of sixteen medals (5 Golds, 4 Silver and 7 Bronze medals).   In the 30-49 Mixed Team event, Udayanganie Ariyawansa partnered by three Australian players, won a Gold Medal.   In the 50-64 year Mixed Team event Tamara Hewage partnered by two Australians won a Silver Medal whilst Dr. Nimal Lucas and Mohamed Laffeer partnered by an Australian, each won a Bronze Medal.   Udayangani Ariyawansa playing in the 30-49 year Women’s Singles event, played a fine game of Table Tennis to win a Gold Medal.   Tamara Hewage exhibited that she had not lost the touch of her young days played a fine game to win a Gold Medal in the 50-64 year Women’s Singles. In the 65-74 year event Singles, Mohamed Laffeer bagged Silver and Dr. Nimal Lucas though he had no luck to win a gold finished third to win a Bronze Medal.   Tamara Hewage partnering Udayangani Ariyawansa showed their prowess to win a Gold Medal each in the Over-30 Women’s Doubles and Ira Ruwanpathirana partnered by an Australian won a Bronze Medal.   In the Over-65 Men’s Doubles, Dr. Nimal Lucas and Mohamed Laffeer went down fighting in the finals occupying second spot to win a Silver Medal.   Udayangani Ariyawansa partnering an Australian playing in the Over-30 Mixes Doubles finished third to win a Bronze Medal and in the Over-50 Mixed Doubles Mohamed Laffeer and Tamara Hewage each won a Bronze Medal.
