Sport

Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 19 runs on Duckworth/Lewis Method to win the third and final ODI and record a 3-0 series whitewash at Pallekele Stadium in Kandy on Saturday (7).   Sri Lanka set to chase 190 runs for victory after West Indies posted 206 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, reached 180 for the loss of 5 wickets when the third successive downpour forced the game an end.   Opener Kusal Perera recorded his second back-to-back half century as he hit a 47-ball 50 inclusive of two fours and two sixes.   Skipper Angelo Mathews remained unbeaten on 27 off 33 balls with a boundary at the time of the stoppage.   This was after brief and useful knocks from TM Dilshan (21), Lashiru Thirimanne (21) and Dinesh Chandimal (23) helped the home team gradually reach the target.   Sri Lanka won the toss and put West Indies into bat as the game was interrupted more than once revising the game to a 36-over affair.   West Indies were badly placed at 84 for the loss of six wickets at one stage but a fighting knock of 110 not out off 95 deliveries from Marlon Samuels helped them post a respectable total at the end.   Samuels hit 15 fours and a six during his knock helping the Windies keep their momentum on.   Dushmantha Chameera, Suranga Lakmal, Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis picked two wickets apiece.   Samuels was named the man-of-the-match while Perera won the man-of-the-series award.   West Indies 206 for 9 wickets (36) (Marlon Samuels 110n.o, Jason Holder 19, Carlos Brathwaite 18, Dushmantha Chameera 2/39, Suranga Lakmal 2/40, Lasith Malinga 2/43, Ajantha Mendis 2/53)   Sri Lanka 180 for 5 wickets (32.3) (Kusal Perera 50, TM Dilshan 21, Lahiru Thirimanne 21, Dinesh Chandimal 23, Angelo Mathews 27n.o, Milinda Siriwardana 17, Shehan Jayasuriya 11n.o, Jason Holder 2/44)
