The Board of Investment (BOI) entered into a US$1.5 million agreement with Solas Marine Lanka (Pvt) Ltd to establish a project to manufacture yachts and boats.
The company is part of Solas Marine Service Co. LLC, a Dubai based multinational company that has now ventured into the Sri Lankan market. At the inaugural ceremony this week to launch the commencement of operations, Solas Marine Lanka Managing Director Prashanth Kamath said the company stands and believes in quality of production, design and production management.
He said the highest quality certifications have been adopted and the company is keeping par with international standards in terms of its manufacturing set up.
Mr. Kamath added that the facilities, located in Wattala, have been upgraded over the last six months into a modern system. Solas Marine Lanka has commenced operations with a current workforce of 60 employees that have been allotted to build fishing boats, luxury boats, interisland service boats, crew boats, patrol boats, leisure crafts and luxury yachts.
The company said that with the dawn of a new era with the ending of the war in Sri Lanka, Solas Marine Lanka is keen to recognize the immediate need to the fishing industry to manufacture boats and yachts to standard and custom specifications using state of the art technology from the United States and Canada.
The company has adopted the Quality Management System (QMS), comply ISO 9001:2009 International standards. The company anticipates significant expansion in operations by employing more personnel and acquiring various quality standards.
Solas Marine Services which houses its flagship in Dubai, UAE with branches in Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia, is a major solutions provider for the marine industry, particularly specializing in life saving and survival equipment.
This includes fire and gas detection, breathing air cascade systems, installation and maintenance and navigation and communications systems. |
