Human Resource Awards are a recognition of companies that withstood the challenges of the tough situation the human resources industry has faced with the local financial turmoil, the war and the global recession, said Isuru Tillakawardana, President, Association of Human Resources Professionals at a press conference held in Colombo last week to announce the launch of HRM Awards 2010 – Super 10 that will be held next month.
He said that the competition is to recognize the best HRM practices and said that the competition is not just a race to be the best but a learning process for the companies to become more productive and successful in the future.
The Association has conducted three HRM Awards earlier since they started in 2002 and the present one is the fourth and the whole exercise is to explore what tangible and intangible benefits that would be yielded by the participants and stakeholders.
With the necessity of having a professional human resource function, many Sri Lankan organizations have equipped their management team with a human resource manager and his presence makes a good start. However most often these HR professionals were workng in isolation with less empowerment to make changes and infuse new thinking in to the existing people management practices.
This lacked upward mobility and they rarely got any recognition of their contribution to the organization and human resource function was often subordinated to the finance or legal function within the average medium sized Sri Lankan company. |
