The most decisive Advanced Level Examination is now concluded and this certainly is a time for you to relax and be happy of the hard labour you invested and the sweat and tears you shed to make a new opening for your future career. But do bear in mind that passing through your Advanced Level examination alone is not an adequate qualification to head towards a successful career path.
In today’s competitive world, job competition is at its highest peak and many a times job availability is scarce, limiting the opportunities available in today’s diverse and overly competitive market.
Therefore both an academic and professional qualification is imperative to survive in today’s business world. Thus, a marketable qualification is of a must because a marketable qualification would drive you through into the path of success even in the most competitive of business markets.
Today we find many qualifications of extremely high value but of very little recognition and also it is common to find very cheap qualifications with no recognition at all. What is important for youth today is to choose a qualification which has both the affordability and recognition; yet such qualifications are very rare!
But as a diamond that lies amidst stones there still is a golden opportunity available for students after A/L’s to pursuit a world renowned affordable qualification offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), Sri Lanka’s national accounting body that has a long history that roots back to 52 years of valuable educational service for generations of students with continuous trust and dependability.
The Chartered Accountancy course
The ICASL course structure consists of three levels which primarily covers financial accounting, management, business accounting, taxation, auditing, business English, commercial and corporate law.
Apart from the general study course, the most unique feature of the ICASL qualification is the minimum three-year practical training period that a student has to undergo during his or her course of study, making the chartered accountant not only the most sought after professional in the world but a fully qualified qualification which covers all aspects necessary to deal in today’s competitive business world.
The ICASL course structure comprises of the following:
- Certificate in Accounting and Business (CAB)
- Diploma in Accounting and Business (DAB)
- Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA)
Entry requirements
Any student who has passed his or her advanced level examination with three simple passes in any stream can follow the ICASL course. Furthermore, age is no barrier to register to follow this prestigious qualification, making way for even the most senior person to be able to follow this prestigious course and enjoy the benefits of this esteemed qualification.
However, students who have fallen short of this requirement can join ICASL’s sister institution, the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) where they can follow the foundation course and following completion of all required courses at AAT join the ICASL and obtain the ACA qualification.
Practical training
Practical training plays a vital role in building the required skills and competencies of a professional; hence completion of a specified training requirement has become an essential part towards becoming a chartered accountant.
All students at ICASL are required to follow a minimum of three-year practical training period at prestigious organizations in the country which includes the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, state and privately owned banks, accounting bodies and non-accounting bodies.
Students also have the opportunity to obtain permanent employment at these prestigious establishments once they complete their practical training, depending on their performances.
ICASL Scholarships
The ICASL, as the country’s national accounting body offers a range of scholarships to deserving students on an annual basis.
Therefore, the ICASL annually awards 40 scholarships to students who have scored the highest at the Advanced Level examination, while scholarships are also granted to students who suffer from financial difficulties.
Affordability
Today we find many qualifications at extremely high prices but of little recognition. Therefore, what is important for students is to choose a qualification that has both affordability and recognition; which seems very rare. Yet the ICASL qualification enjoys both these factors.
At just a fraction of the cost in contrast to most of its foreign competitors, the ICASL qualification comes at an amazingly affordable price and commands the same recognition that its foreign competitors enjoy today.
