Sri Lanka Institute of Printing, the pioneer professional body committed to the advancement of knowledge, skills and expertise in the Graphic Arts industry is totally dedicated to serve the Printing & Graphic Arts Industry in Sri Lanka.
The Institute was established by an Act of Parliament in 1984 is funtioning under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Skills Development. It is an organization devoted to the furtherance of scientific and technical education and meeting the ever widening need for knowledge and skills in the Printing & Graphic Arts industry. Its special task is to assist the industry meet the demands of modernization in the context of the country’s socioeconomic progress.
The Institute is reformulating and restructuring its programmes on continuous basis in par with the new technological developments in the global Graphic Arts Industry.
The SLIOP, with over two decades of experience in running a training institute relating to all the prime aspects of the print & graphic industry, is considered the leading academy specialized in this field of activity. Apart from its comprehensive and well-structured training programmes the institute provides an insight into all the relevant facets of the industry backed by a well-equipped computer unit and machinery for gaining skills and technical know-how by their proper use. However, it’s experienced and professionally qualified panel of demonstrators, instructors and lecturers, who continuously guide the trainees with their updated expertise, are perhaps it’s most important and noteworthy strength.
The success stories of those who have already passed out from the Institute, the keenness and enthusiasm of the current trainees, and the demand to secure slots in the forthcoming technical training programme are, for certain, the real yardstick for measuring the effectiveness of the Institute.
At the time of its inauguration, the institute was considered an important tool in the development of professional skills in Graphic Arts, both in the technical and management sphere, so necessary to carry the industry up to international levels of acceptance. Sri Lanka Institute of Printing has developed training modules in different fields of study and expertise, leading up to a recognized Advanced Diplomas in Printing and Visual Communication Technology and Management.
SLIOP Advanced Diploma is a joint collaboration with the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka which has recognized our Advanced Diploma as a pre requisite to enter the MBA programme of the same University. Some of our Diploma students are currently following the MBA programme conducted not only by the University of Colombo but also by other Sri Lankan and International Universities as well.
In imparting the required knowledge and skills, the Institute is fortunate to be able to obtain the services of a number of professionals in the industry and allied fields. There direct involvement in the formulation of study courses and syllabuses, the preparation of course materials and in conducting of teaching sessions has provided the much desired stature and standards to the varied activities of the Institute.
The Institute also possesses a library with an unparalleled collection of books and publications on the Management,Printing and Graphic Arts Industry. This gives the needed depth to the inputs provided in the theory and practical sessions. The institute has introduced many new study programme during in the past few years in Graphics and Multi Media related technologies enabling the new comers to master the skills before they take up employment in the industry. SLIOP courses have been designed as per the industry standards and job requirements.
