Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology proved their claim to be the best educational institution for Psychology, as its students achieved the best results in the country for Advanced Level Psychology at Cambridge University International Examinations . Ladies College, Colombo 07, which is in an academic alliance with CIRP to teach Psychology at A levels continued their high achievements for Psychology this year too, having LCites achieve 12 A stars and 16 A grades.
CIRP has a well established London AL section that offers a wide variety of subjects in the Science, Commerce and Art streams from both Edexcel and Cambridge examination bodies. CIRP is famous especially among students who are offering subjects such as Psychology, Sociology, Art & Design, Law etc , that are not taught in other schools due to lack of qualified and experienced lecturers.
CIRP is an international centre for both Edexcel International Examinations and Cambridge University International Examinations, thus students are able to apply and receive results through CIRP rather than go to British Council.
The academic excellence and teaching talents of CIRP staff is a well known factor in academia, thus many prominent international and private schools have entered into partnership with CIRP in offering subjects such as Psychology and Sociology. Ladies College was the first to enter into such an agreement and since then CIRP has kept its promise to Ladies College by producing the best results in the country for Psychology for the past several years. From this year Alethea International School has signed an agreement with CIRP to provide teaching in Psychology as well as Sociology.
CIRP's School of Psychology was inspected and audited by senior academics from University of Hertfordshire, Angela Holland, Head of School of Psychology and Dr.Lyn Karstadt, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Health & Human Sciences. The visit by the academic staff of the University of Hertfordshire was in view of the HND programme leading to a B.Sc. in Psychology from the university that is to be launched in September.
The HND programme in Psychology designed by CIRP was praised by the visiting Hertfordshire faculty. The one and a half year programme that would allow the entry to thefinal year of the B.Sc. in Psychology would now make it possible for Sri Lankan youth to obtain a degree from a top class UK university for a fraction of the cost. The HND which is equal to two years in a university costs around two and half lacks and the students are able to save around 6 million and still obtain the same qualification with the same recognition.
The HND programme includes 18 core Psychology modules and 12 electives. Students are able to select from a range of 40 modules. As a result they could select modules from different areas in Psychology such as Child & Adolescent, Clinical & Abnormal, Organizational and Criminal & Forensic. This would allow the students to sub specialize their HND into a field they prefer.
CIRP also offers a range of Diploma programmes in sub specialties in Psychology, and are popular among the professionals from various fields who wish to gain skills and knowledge in Psychology to facilitate their work.
CIRP academic staff was further strengthened by its latest addition, Dr.Janet Levalley as the Dean of the School of Psychology. Dr. Janet is an experienced respected and reputed academic in the field of Psychology education in Sri lanka and abroad. She is an American psychologist with her research interest in Cross Cultural Psychology and trauma therapy.
She heads a faculty that has more than 18 lecturers, on permanent and visiting basis. All the academic staff handling the degree programme have at least M.Sc. level qualification in theory respective teaching areas.CIRP has made all their programmes into professional courses by including thorough skill development and training programmes that would mould students into responsible ethical and innovative professionals. |
