Police mobilised for......
As Police prepared to accompany Government officials for raids on rice hoarders from tomorrow, traders warned they would not release any new stocks for sale because they would suffer losses. Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry Secretary R.M.K. Ratnayake, told The Sunday Times that from tomorrow Police would accompany officials of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) on raids.
 
Police hunt for JVP’s Amerasinghe.....
As the rift between the two factions in the JVP widened, police have launched a manhunt for as many as 20 supporters of JVP leader Somawansa Amerasinghe for their alleged involvement in the raid on the house of a JVP Member of Parliament loyal to former Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa.

At 84, (Donny) Vincent Ranasinghe is the last surviving member of the Ceylon Garrison Artillery (CGA) contingent that served on Cocos Islands during the Mutiny in 1942. On the night of May 8, 1942, Donny was caught in the crossfire of the rebellion, he recalled, when I met him recently at his home at Wattala.

Despite flight restrictions due to security concerns, flying schools are suddenly taking off the ground in Sri Lanka. At the moment two companies are operating flying training schools in the island and over the last year, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says it got three more applications.The CAA says the sudden burst of aviation education is due to the growing demand for commercial pilots in the Asian and Middle Eastern region.
