Exploring figures

By Disney Perera

Sameera Kalupahana’s first exhibition solely dedicated to figure studies is on today (March 8) at the Lionel Wendt Gallery. A realist who finds inspiration in his surroundings, he works mainly in watercolours, oils, graphite and charcoal.

Exploring the subtleties of the human figure in a variety of poses, through subtle shifts of weight, gestures and expressions, he is able to evoke in the viewer a range of emotions and moods.

With a sound academic training behind him, Sameera lives and works in his village at Beruwela where he has his studio. He is also an instructor at the Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts (VAFA)
