On the road again

By Natasha Fernandopulle

The Revelations Academy was founded with the intent of bringing out the very best in terms of performing arts, along with the idea of foster creativity through the Arts. The academy was founded in 2007 by Sanjeev Jayaratnam, the Conductor and Music Director of the internationally acclaimed Male Choral Group, ‘The Revelations,’ along with Srimanthaka Senanayake and Ishan de Lanerolle who also happen to be a vital part of The Revelations. In order to commemorate their second anniversary the academy will be presenting The Road To Fame, which will be their first concert.

The show will feature the adults, intermediates and juniors of the Academy. “A bulk of the students have been around from 2007,” said Ishan, adding that 64 students will be participating in their debut performance.

“We wanted to bring out creativity in children and adults,” said Ishan as to why the academy was formed, adding, “A lot of adults grow up and tend to miss out on the arts” he said, therefore the academy gives them a chance to find their talents again.

He also went on to say that those having just left school can further their music careers through The Revelations Academy. In terms of children he said, “Children go through a hectic academic life but they need to be balance this off through extra curricular activities,” therefore the academy would be the best place for them.

“The programme will include an adaptation of a well loved children’s story,” said Isha n, adding, “And the story is one we want to keep a surprise!” This aside there will be a number of songs from popular musicals, like ABBA, Grease and Fame, just to name a few. The acting will be directed by Krishan Jayaratnam, the singing by Sanjeev, Srimanthaka and Ishan and the choreography by Anasu.

The Road To Fame will go on boards at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on March 25, 2009 at 7pm and the box plan is now open. The media sponsors for the event are YES FM, MTV, the Daily Mirror and The Sunday Times.
